Newest “E-Zine” is ready!
Now you can get
Horn & Whistle on-line as an "E-zine," with the new
on-line version issue # 122, and it's much less expensive as well.
Newest issue #122
is ready and for those of you who have opted for the E-zine subscription,
I have already notified you how to find this, the latest issue of H&W.
Next week we'll be printing the first of several
print runs of issue #122 so if you're getting the paper copies, you won;t
have to wait much longer!
PICTURES. The pictures
that we include in each issue can only be as good as the originals. Obviously
when we get pictures sent as E-mail attachments and taken with a good digital
camera, the magazine pictures will likewise be good. However, when we get
old pages mailed in, or old newspaper clippings or copies of copies of copies
that were downloaded from the web and printed at home, these can be pretty
terrible, and no amount of Photoshop tweaking will really get them
looking good again. So, for those of you who intend to have us publish your
material in H&W, think about your pictures and try to send them
as JPEG attachments to your E-mail. If you're sending in photographs, we can
usually get pretty good reproductions from these. However, when you send copies
of old newspaper clippings and other similar material, all bets are off as
to how well a picture will look in the magazine. If it appears that a picture
is too far gone to repair suitably, we will not include it unless it has a
significant historical interest associated with it.
New
single PDF version of #122. As we continue to improve our web presence,
I am happy to report that the new issue, #122 is now available on-line
as a single PDF complete with active links. Some of our subscribers have
e-mailed their preference for doing this, and I am grateful for their
suggestions. We at H&W hope you'll
like the new PDF of #122. I have already received many favorable comments
about it.
It's easy to subscribe to the on-line version of Horn & Whistle. Click this link to the special subscription form for the "E-zine" version. And, the on-line issue is in two different formats. One is standard HTML web pages, with active links where necessary, and we could also include sound clips and animation as well. The other version consists of standard PDF pages which you can easily download and print yourself if you want to save either a particular article or the entire issue. When issue #123 is ready this fall, it will be available exclusively as a PDF. WEBSITE
SIMPLIFICATION
For a long time
now we have had two independent websites although there were so many links
between them that essentially they functioned as one website. However, it
is not only not necessary, but also an extra expense to have two such similar
sites. Therefore, I have eliminated the site that ends with .net. We have
a so-called redirect in place however, so if you do click on the .net site,
you will be immediately taken to this site, which is:
www.HornAndWhistle.com I
think by now I have fully debugged this website. There were quite a few glitches
and minor problems when I first combined the two sites, but thanks to feedback
from some of you and also my own careful perusal of this site, I think every
major glitch has been eliminated. However, in spite of this, I realize that
I may still have missed something! So if in your visiting and exploring this
website, you find a link that doesn't work as it should or some other discrepancy,
please send me an E-mail.
Most of us invariably when surfing the web type in .com first before trying .net or any other term, so it made sense to retain the website that ends with .com. Money saved by eliminating the .net site can be used to offset other magazine production expenses as I continue to look for ways to make H&W more efficient, cutting wherever I can without sacrificing either content or quality. VICE PUBLISHER WANTED
If you
are a subscriber and have a genuine interest in horns and whistles and the
ability to type on a computer and work with pictures and page layout, let
me know. I will be happy to help a serious applicant learn what is necessary
to produce H&W. Serious applicants only, please
click here. Don't worry if you don't know website development. I will
handle that. I need someone who can get pictures and articles, format them
into attractive page layouts, prepare pictures for printing, and then send
the results to our printer for making paper magazines and to me for making
the web version. You'll also have to mail out the paper copies, so working
with a mailing list and doing mail merge are very helpful to know.
It is not wise for a publication such as this to be wholly dependent upon one individual for its production and mailing. So, please give some thought to this above request. Subscription
Pricing Information
USA first class
and also Canadian paper subscriptions are $25.00 per year. Paper subscriptions
in all other countries except USA and Canada will be $30.00 per year beginning
with issue #120. All existing non-USA and CANADA subscriptions which renew
on or after issue #120 will be priced at these rates. Note that USA first
class and Canadian subscriptions remain at their current levels. However,
if you want to save money, get the on-line version. It will be available for
just $10.00 per year in any country. Likewise, if you have a lifetime subscription
to H&W, it of course incurs no further expense beyond your initial
one time lifetime subscription payment.
Changed your Address?
Then let us know!
It's possible that you can miss paper
issues if we don't have your current postal address, so please let us
know if your address changes. Even if you move up to a larger PO box at
the same postal facility, this constitutes an address change, as does
new construction in your area when it causes changes in your street
numbering. Likewise, if you have E-mail and you switch
to a different provider, keep us up to date. This is especially important
if you are going to get the new on-line "E-zine" version of
H&W. We must have a current E-mail address or we can't get
the E-zines to you
